PARK HOP Feature: SPLISH SPLASH Water Park Review

Summer time is when the children let loose. It’s when they forget about school and let their imaginations and energy run unrestricted. Well, at least that is how I imagine it. It’s the best time of year to enjoy all things outdoors. Before that all comes to an end, I wanted to highlight one of our great summer experiences at Splish Splash Water Park.

Last month, Aaron and I ventured off to Splish Splash Waterpark in our Park hopping summer adventure. It was the 2nd major park we visited and Aaron and his partner in crime, his God sister, were super excited.

Voted as one of the best water parks in America, Splish Splash is a fairly sized water park. It caters to various types visitors. Splash Splash hosts the bird Olympic Games daily at multiple times throughout the day. They also have rides and slides for the adventurous and attractions such as the wave pool and lazy river for the not so adventurous. They have 4 specific areas for the younger children: The Yellow Submarine, the Octopus Pool, the Monsoon Lagoon and Pirates Cove.

We spent our day in those exact areas. We also spent some time in the lazy river, which is accessible to all ages.

If you just want to relax in a pool, Soak City is another all-age accessible attraction.

When I usually visit parks with rides and attractions, I expect a whole day affair. Instead, we were able to spend ample time in each of the above areas and still leave the park by 3:00pm (the park closes at 6pm during the week, and 7pm on weekends. Towards the end of August, times change a little bit).

Aaron found something he loved the most and so we spent most of our time in that area.

How To Prepare For Your Trip:

  • Pack: Change of clothes and shoes, 2 towels per person, water, lunch (if applicable), sunblock, lotion, snacks, hair accessories, camera, waterproof accessories for camera, spending cash
  • Plan to arrive when it opens (10am) to maximize your day and beat the sun’s peak time.
  • Bring $15 dollars for parking.
  • If you want a cost-effective trip, bring your own lunch in a cooler that can stay in the car (food not purchased in the park will not be allowed inside the park). There are picnic tables right outside the park to make this option more convenient. I brought a thermos cup of water for Aaron as he is a toddler and gets thirsty often.
  • Purchase/Order a waterproof phone case for pictures and videos (completely worth it). You can do without it (as I did), but it was quite the risk.
  • If you prefer to take loads of items with you (i.e. multiple towels, change of clothes, diapers, wipes, sunblock, lotions, valuables etc.), you can rent a regular locker for $14.00, a large locker for $18.00 and family size locker for $22.00.

Aaron and I opted to carry minimal items in small packs which were able to fit into the cubby holes near the lazy river or simply placed in a lounge chair in the toddler areas. If you go with this option, come to the park in your swimming wear. We changed our clothes at days end in the parking lot, which was fairly easy to do.

  • Life Jackets: We didn’t purchase any nor rented any as we did not think they were necessary for the attractions we visited, but you can purchase one here or rent one at the park.

Splish Splash ends its operations on September 5th, on which day the park closes at 5pm. If you want to fit in your last HOORAH before school starts, get your tickets here.

With summer time drawing to an end, so will our park hopping adventures, which you can follow on my social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, snapchat). Not that Aaron is engaged in rigorous school work as a young homeschooled toddler, but I know he will surely miss being at the parks as we get closer and closer to winter.

Hopefully the coming seasons will give opportunity for snow fights and plenty of swimming in the fall leaves. Until then….

Happy Trails!
